On Sunday July 18, filly and colt Hambo hopefuls met at Tioga for the Tompkins-Geers. The filly divisions were worth $25,000-plus and the colt divisions were worth $40,000- plus. Nine “Oaks” and seven Hambo hopefuls s filled the Grand Circuit card.

In the first filly division, both Oaks-hopefuls lost. Orizaba finished second. She led up to the turn as Sabana Hanover challenged her. Orizaba was necked at the wire. The other, My Winning Way K, finished sixth as she stalked the pace with no rally.

In the first colt division, two Hambo-hopefuls were defeated. Finishing third was Baximum. He went for the front around the turn and was challenged by non-eligible Aruba Vacation at the first quarter. Baximum had given way at the stretch. The other on the list was Greek Myth, who was in the fourth spot and broke at the half.

In the second filly division, Full Tank beat Sweetspellosuccess at the line; they were both eligible. “Tank” sat in the pocket throughout and got a spot second over. She then challenged “Sweet” to the line. Out of the money was True Advantage.

In the nightcap for the colts, Jetblue Volo beat the other hopefuls. “Volo” sat the pocket throughout and came out at three-quarters. In second was Rap’s Legacy. “Rap” led throughout but was caught in the stretch. Ace Hanover, Woody Marvel and Can’t Lose were all out of the money.

In the final filly division, Jettalady, one of two eligibles, won. In third was Madam Hooch, who was hung at the first quarter and got a pocket trip the rest of the way. She could not chase down Jettalady, as she went wire to wire. Opaline went three wide after sitting in the back and had no rally. She and Power Of Motion were both out of the money. “Motion” broke at the gate.
