On June 23 at Chester, a handful of "Oaks"-eligibles took part in a few lucrative divisions of the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes. Four of them won; two of them are conditioned by Hambletonian-winning veteran Ron Gurfein.

Secret Magic was tons the best, though let go at 15-1. The Gurfein-trained filly came out of the 8 hole, was wide to settle, then came out again and mowed down the favorite, a non-eligible, to win by 4 lengths.

Finishing in a dead heat for the place shot was Oaks-fancying Cantab It All. Spectacular Bay was the other eligible; she finished fifth for Ray Schnittker.

The next eligible to win a division—each worth over $60,000—was Spicey Wings at 3-1. John Campbell took "Wings" into a 5-length brush to get the top as the favorite, Fashion Feline (eligible) jumped off the gate.

This was the field with the most hopefuls. Merger Blue Chip was second, Behindclosedoors was third, Special Appeal was fourth, followed by "Feline" and Up Front Juansteen.

Another division winner with Oaks on her mind was from team Gurfein. Crown Laurel was 9-2, making up 8 lengths to three-quarters, surviving a first-over charge and drawing away by more than 4 lengths. Royal Clout, the other hopeful, broke and finished last.
