Along the trail this past week and coming up this next weekend, soph-colt-and-filly trotters remain competitive in stakes events they hope will catapult them to stardom.

Southwind Samurai wins for Pat Berry
The return of filly Southwind Samurai in last week’s Empire Breeders Championship (EBC) elim turned into another highlight on May 31 when she won, as we predicted, the $234,900 final. Doing so, she paid a whopping $9 over 3-5 choice Impressive Kent, who finished second.

The colts were stunned by Strong Hope, at 15-1, in their EBC final, as he defeated Whata Winner, the gelding. Big Stick Lindy was third.

This weekend, on Friday, June 4, two New Jersey Sires Stakes events at the Meadowlands bring back Temple Of Doom and Break The Bank K. They will vie in the same race.

In the second of the two soph-colt affairs, Take My Picture gets the 3 hole, Flex The Muscle will come from the 5 hole and Senor Glide has to deal with post 8.

Also on Friday, June 4, also, three $50,000 Currier & Ives chapters pit colt Hambo-eligibles against one another. The first split gives Chimon, Money Man K and Texas Ridge a chance to race better than they have been racing with stronger competition. Another hopeful in this mile is Upandover Hanover. None of these have won yet this season, making non-eligible Ellisarro Hanover the likely public choice.

Hard Livin versus Can’t Lose in the second "Currier" battle. If he continues to keep his gait as smooth as he did at the PASS win last week he should beat Can’t Lose and the other five.

Last but not least, the Currier nightcap brings back On The Tab, though he has to deal with post 7. The two other eligibles here are Kash’s Caviar and Baximum.
